The first thing that strikes you at St. Barts’ newest stunner, Hotel Manapany, is its harmony with the natural surroundings from the rugged, roundabout road and steep slope that leads to the 4.2-acre retreat, to the untouched palm and mango trees that shroud vivacious roof thatched palapas.
The second thing you notice is Hotel Manapany’s ode to authentic French-Caribbean culture, as well as cocktails infused with Rhum Agricole from Guadeloupe and Martinique, and a seafood-inspired menu that fuses haute-cuisine techniques with bounty procured from native fishermen and native herbs from an on-site garden.
Located in Anse de Cayes, which is a more mellow corner of the island compared to busy St. Jean, Hotel Manapany is staking its claim as a 5 star eco-friendly resort amongst the classic glitz and glam that the island is well known for. It’s the sole resort on St. Barts that’s really committed to protecting the environment, with amenities that embody electric vehicles for guests to use and solar-powered water heating.
Originally revealed in March 2018, Hotel Manapany reopened on November 15th with additional updates, as well as a brand new farm-to-table restaurant that includes Mediterranean fare sourced from the island, a brand new leisure room, and an atelier design studio providing tailor-made creations by the island’s most sought-after designers. Executive Chef Martel oversees the recently constructed 60 seat restaurant with enviable views of the Caribbean Sea. The cuisine reflects Martel’s 15 years of expertise on the French Riviera by highlighting native seafood and a French rotisserie to prepare chicken, meat, pork, lamb, and fish.
In conjunction with the new library that serves high tea and tailor-made cocktails amid walls of art and history books, guests at Hotel Manapany can also relish a brand new atelier by designers Cedric Vernon Fahey and Rodolphe Ayer. L’Atelier by Ced & Rod permits guests of the hotel to book personal consultations with the designers to make made-to-order couture which will be ready to bring home on the day of departure (with a minimum five-day stay) or will be shipped within six months of the consultation.
French luxury hotel group B Signature Hotels & Resorts tapped interior designer François Champsaur to reimagine the 43 room Hotel Manapany resort from the bottom up, and it’s the brand’s first property outside of an impressive European portfolio that features four boutique properties in Paris and a stunning 30 room Relais & Châteaux property within the countryside of Brittany, Domaine de La Bretesche.
Each room at Hotel Manapany has an ocean or garden view, with interior decor that embraces the property’s “back-to-roots” motto with tropical woods, ocean-inspired pastel furnishings, and earthy tones. There’s a touch of the international, too, thanks to brilliantly colored rugs woven by Mexican artisans and original drawings by French artist Mayon Crayon.
There’s additionally a spa at Hotel Manapany providing Dr. Hauschka merchandise and yoga classes, and 2 swimming pools overlooking the turquoise ocean. It all adds up to an intimate and private ambiance not unlike hotel Villa Marie Saint Barth, another newcomer to arrive on the island with a contemporary perspective. It’s additionally another leap forward for the island because it reinvents itself after devastating hurricane Irma.
